Bring and share with the Technology Strategy Board

Posted on: July 31, 2009

We had a busy day on Wednesday as Brian McCarthy from the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) paid us a visit.

The TSB is the government agency that supports and funds the growth of technology based innovation for the UK.

Dr Cathy Garner meets

Dr Cathy Garner CEO of Manchester Knowledge Capital and TSB's Brian McCarthy deep in conversation

They invest in projects that drive new technological solutions to the big problems of our time – such as low carbon buildings; assisted living ( for all of us that might need that in the future); technology solutions to transport problems and so on.

Many thanks for those who supported us in presenting some of these areas to Brian.

You will hear a lot more about the TSB in our future postings as we now have a long list of follow-up actions.

One important area is the growth of a programme called Small Business Research Initiative ( SBRI) which sets challenges for the development of new products on behalf of government departments and contracts with companies to supply them.

This programme has been imported from the USA where it has been a huge success in supporting small  companies to innovate with a positive cash-flow!
